Everything you need to learn a passage
Musaica is a free online sheet music reader with tools designed around how musicians actually practise: listen first, slow it down, chunk it, loop it, then build back up to tempo.
| Tool | What it does | Use it to |
|---|---|---|
| Speed control | Play from 10% to 200% of the written tempo, with presets from 25% to 100% | Learn fast runs slowly and step back up |
| Loop | Repeat the whole piece or a range of notes you select (Shift + drag) | Drill the two bars that keep tripping you up |
| Metronome | A click on every beat under the music | Keep a steady pulse |
| Rhythm counter | Shows the count for each bar — "1 e & a" words, bar lengths or a clock view | Understand and count tricky rhythms |
| Intonation check | Listens through your microphone and compares your pitch with the score | Find flat or sharp notes on violin, voice, winds, oud or ney |
| Practice library | Save a looped excerpt as a practice part (free account) | Come back to the same passage tomorrow |
A simple practice routine
- Listen to the passage twice at full speed while following the cursor.
- Loop just the hard bars and drop the speed until you can play them cleanly — often 50–60%.
- Count aloud with the rhythm counter if the rhythm is the problem.
- Raise the speed in small steps (60%, 70%, 80%…) only after three clean repetitions.
- Check intonation with the microphone on sustained or exposed notes.
- Save the excerpt to your practice library and review your intonation report next time.
The method behind this routine is explained in detail in how to practise a difficult passage.
Frequently asked questions
Can I slow down sheet music playback?
Yes. Musaica plays any uploaded score from 10% to 200% speed on the practice page, and you can type an exact BPM in the player.
Can I loop a section of a score?
Yes. Turn on loop and Shift-drag across the notes you want to repeat.
Do the practice tools cost anything?
No. Speed control, looping, the metronome, the rhythm counter and the intonation check are free. Saving practice parts needs a free account.
Does the intonation check work for singers?
Yes. It listens to any single-line pitched sound through your microphone — voice, strings, winds, oud, ney and more.
